Duet with Mom! – Piya Tose Naina Lage Re

Song: Piya Tose Naina Lage Re
Movie: Guide (1965)
Originally sung by: Lata Mangeshkar Ji
Lyricist: Shailendra Singh
Composer: S D Burman

An evergreen old classic, sung by the Melody Queen, Lata Mangeshkar Ji, this song has many a times livened up our living room and kitchen. My mum and me love singing this song and often times while cooking, mummy tempts me to join her as she begins singing.

I did a quick Google search and I got to know that the song is from movie that had released decades before I was born and yet it is well-known by many in my age-group!! Isn’t that amazing!! How many current day Bollywood songs have the potential to be sung by my grand kids?! Can you think of any?

After sharing my first recording Kehna Hi Kya, I was wanting to post a duet with my mom and was waiting just for the perfect song. Initially my mom and me were confused about which song to sing, there was a tie between Piya Tose and Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon. On my Twitter poll, Piya Tose emerged as a clear winner! 😉

The very next day we began singing and recording and each time, the experiences were quite hilarious. Sometimes, mummy’s notes would go off-track and at other times, I would forget about singing my stanza twice.

After multiple tries, we finally had a recording that we were confident about sharing on the blog. My mom’s regular practice and passion for singing is quite evident in her voice and it often gives me a complex but having said that, she is my greatest inspiration, not to forget, she is also the one who has introduced me to the beautiful vocation of singing!

I hope the duet gives you good company. My mom takes the lead. 🙂

Sing along!

Piya tose naina lage re
Naina lage re…
Jane kya ho ab aage re
Piya tose naina lage re

Ooo. oo. oo.
Aayee holi ayee
Ooo. sab rang laayee
Bin tere holi bhi na bhaaye

Ooo. bhar pichkaari
Ooo.sakhiyon ne maaree
Bhigee moree saaree haye haye.
Tan badan moraa kaanpe thar thar

Dhinak dhin dhin
Dhinak dhin dhin

Piya tose.
Piya tose naina lage re
Naina lage re…
Jabe kya ho ab aage re.

Raat ko jab chaand chamake
Jal uthhe tan mera
Main kahoon mat kar o chanda
Is gali ka feraa
Aa.Umm. (2)

Aana mora saiyan jab aaye
Chamakna us raat ko jab
Milenge tanaman
Milenge tanaman

Piya tose naina lage re
Naina lage re.
Oho piya
Oo. Piya
Aaha Piya
Oo. Piya tose naina lage re
Jane kya ho ab aage re
Naina lage re…
Piya tose naina lage re

    1. Hi Archana, I was really wanting to go for a video, but both of us our camera shy and so this worked well for us! Thank you so much for encouraging and I hope you’ll be here for our future renditions! 😊 Do you also enjoy singing?

  1. This is such a beautiful song, one of my favourites. And you both have sung so beautifully!

My mom and I have this thing, that whenever working in the house or doing everyday chores, we have all the old songs playing in the background.

    1. Thank you Pooja! We both enjoy singing and mum also keeps playing songs on her phone while she works in the kitchen. Earlier had a tape recorder with a stock of her favourite cassettes. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! 😊

    1. Completely agree with you, sharing a hobby with mom and inheriting the trait of similar voices is a blessing! She loves singing! Thank you for encouraging. How about traveling with your parents? That is something that I don’t get to do.

    1. 🙈 This made my morning! So so happy to read your kind, encouraging comment. Mum will be delighted to know. We’re planning on recording a Gujarati song next, what say?
